SIM Slot
Assuming you use a GSM network cell phone (AT&T/Cingular, T-Mobile), you have a SIM slot on your phone. At any time, it is possible to remove your SIM card from the SIM slot. You may want to do this if you plan to travel abroad where your cellular phone plan would charge you extra for long-distance. Rather than pay hefty fees, you can buy a cheap monthly plan at your destination. The new cell phone service provider will give you a SIM card which you insert in the SIM slot. You'll use your same, familiar phone without the long-distance charges! This is possible with an unlocked phone. If you're phone is unlocked, it will accept any SIM card for use on the GSM cellular phone network.
